Nothing But Star Wars – Lists of Songs About Star Wars
Back in December, Star War fans were treated to another episode in the long going series of the wars in space. Whether you loved it or hated it, one thing was for sure, people were talking about it at length…with passion.
I’m not going to go into any thoughts or reviews about Star Wars: The Last Jedi, because it has been talked about it, and still is being talked about, that I feel we need a little bit of a palette cleanser before we get on to the next film. Which I believe is Solo, the Han Solo movie, that will be coming out in May 2018 or December. Who knows?
I want to discuss the very overlooked piece of the Star Wars fandom, that has kept many of us at ease until we got to see those movies again or waiting for something new. I’m talking about Star Wars music, and not the beautifully written score from John Williams that makes our hearts swell with nostalgia or the fun head-swaying, ear-worming alien folk music from Mos Eisleys Cantina.
I’m talking about the music by the fans that looked up to Star Wars all these years. Usually, the first couple of songs that comes to mind could be the crooning classic from Bill Murray aptly named,”Star Wars” or Al Yankovic’s parody song of The Phantom Menace called “The Saga Begins.” Yet there is a big collection of Star Wars inspired songs, remixes, and/or parodies spanning across all music genres.
Here is a list of songs that I would recommend putting on your Star Wars playlist…or at least worth having to listen to.
My picks for songs that were definitely influenced by any of the Star Wars movies.
- Why is Dad So Mad? – Board of Education
Board of Education is a “kiddie band”, but don’t let that turn you away from listening to this fun song. First of all, the song has a very late 90s rock vibe but the lyrics hit on the big generation gap thoughts on the Original Trilogy and the Prequels.
- Chewbacca Song – Supernova
Who doesn’t want to hear a Chewbacca song? The big hairy Wookie is the star in this song, and I won’t spoil anything else.
- Star Wars Remix (Chewbacca) – Jaden & The Beat Droids
Not a really a remix of a song but honestly, I really don’t know what is going on with this song, but it has a cute kid trying to talk about Star Wars. And I admit I will have the chorus stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
- Fett’s Vette – McChris Warning: Explicit Language!
(Not going to provide Youtube thumbnail, follow the link below)
A song that got its popularity from the Cartoon Network Adult Swim program, Aqua Teen Hunger Force. It’s a rap about Boba Fett. If you don’t like swearing, I would advise not listening to it.
- She’s Into Star Wars – King
A love song, mostly, about a guy who found the love of his life that loves Star Wars just as much as he does. How romantic!
- Stormtrooper – Pepper
All about an unnamed StormTrooper who is living the monotony of working for the Empire. Deep. Way too deep.
- The Greatest Story Ever Told – Good Clean Fun
This song is kind of punk-rock as it tells you the story of the Orig Trig.
- What do you get a Wookie for Christmas (when he already owns a comb)
It may be a little late for another Christmas song for your collection right now, but you got to make an exception. Remember all the good memories you had with the Star Wars Christmas special?
These following songs are remixes are very notable scores throughout the series. Sure to put a little hype into your day.
- Bounty Hunters – Royksopp
- Imperial March Remix
- Set Blasters on Full – Ookay
- 8-Bit Star Wars Remix
- The Force Theme (Far Out Remix) – Trap Nation
Songs with new lyrics over popular songs. Weird Al Yankovic makes a living off of this.
- Star Wars Cantina – Richard Cheese
Parodied off of the song Copacabana by Barry Manilow.
- Yoda – Weird Al Yankovic
By the parody king himself, Yankovic uses The Kinks “Lola” song to tribute our favorite green Jedi master.
- Let It Flow (Let It Go Parody) – Box Step Productions
With Star Wars being purchased by Disney, you knew these parodies would happen sooner or later. This parody is (surprise surprise) about Anakin Skywalker. Parodied after “Let It Go” from Frozen.
4. To Know (Someone that I Used To Know Parody ) – Teddiefilms
This video could be seen as either brilliant or cringey, I will leave that up for you to decide. This song is a parody after Gotye’s “Someone That I Used To Know.”
- Last Jedi Knight (Last Friday Night Parody) – Royish Good Looks
I thought I would throw in at least one song from the most recent film to the tune of “Last Friday Night” by Katy Perry.
Here are some songs that are worth mentioning that didn’t quite fit the above lists.
There are so many different songs out there about Star Wars that it is kind of maddening, but it goes to show you how much Star Wars have influenced our lives through all these years. These small lists are just some of my favorites, but I want to hear some of yours. Please leave ones that I have may have missed, or completely overlooked, in the comments down below.
If you liked my lists from above, I have made playlists of each category on Youtube just for you.
Keep on listening and may the force be with you!
